Bioenergy Infrastructure Group appoints Ben Wright as Chief Financial Officer
Ben Wright has joined BIG as Chief Financial Officer. He will oversee the scaling of BIG’s existing bioenergy operations and investment pipeline across the UK.
Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (“BIG”), a specialist investor in the biomass and waste to energy sector, has today announced that Ben Wright has joined the company as Chief Financial Officer.
In this role, Ben will oversee the scaling of BIG’s existing bioenergy operations and investment pipeline across the UK maximising opportunities for increased efficiency across the BIG asset portfolio, and working alongside CEO Hamish McPherson as the company seeks to convert its asset pipeline in excess of 200MW over the next five years.
Prior to joining BIG, Ben was the Chief Financial Officer at Diamond Generating Europe, an energy developer (and subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation) that manages power generation joint venture assets across Europe and the Middle East. As CFO, Ben was responsible for the Finance and Asset Management functions of the business with substantial exposure to project finance, including overseeing €1bn in project finance for a Dutch offshore wind farm, supporting the acquisition of two management-owned European power businesses and leading the establishment of the finance team for a $2.8bn Qatari project. Ben’s early career in the energy sector included roles at Centrica and BG Group.
Commenting on Ben’s arrival, Hamish McPherson, CEO of BIG, said:
“Ben’s appointment as Chief Financial Officer comes at a time of significant expansion for BIG. Ben’s expertise will draw out additional value from BIG’s operations and assets, enabling us to maintain operational excellence while also expanding the business’ portfolio and team.”
Ben Wright, CFO of BIG said:
“I am delighted to have joined the team at BIG at a time of rapid growth for both the company and the biomass and waste to energy sector more broadly. I look forward to contributing to BIG’s continued expansion and further establishing its credentials as one of the leading owner-operators of UK bioenergy assets, as the current portfolio becomes operational in the coming months.”
In the past year, BIG has doubled the size of its team and increased its portfolio from 45MW to 125MW. Via its current operations and pipeline, BIG is on course to divert over 1 million tonnes of waste from landfill and generate enough electricity for half a million homes, significantly contributing to the development of the UK’s low carbon, circular economy.
